Pressure Connections (Taps)
Hot Tapping, or Pressure Connection, is the process of making a connection to an existing pressurized or non-pressurized pipe without having to empty the pipe.
This is done by attaching a mechanical sleeve and gate valve to an existing water main and connecting a cutting machine that mechanically cuts a portion of the main (called a coupon) and retains it in the machine. This then allows the machine boring bar to come out of the main and the operator fully then closes the gate valve and successfully creates a new connection to the pipe.
Holliday Utility Services provides hot tapping for creating new services or connections to existing distribution and transmission mains. We can provide all the necessary materials for the job, including AIS sleeves, and arrive at the job site with all necessary tools, equipment, and personnel to safely complete the job. We have successfully performed tapping for a variety of different pipe types including PVC, DIP, AC/Transite, C900/C909, and Steel. We have the ability to provide small diameter taps as well as large diameters up to 24".

Line Stopping
Line stopping (or line plugging) isolates part of the pipe network to allow for work to be performed on the existing pipe. It serves as a control point for the system and works in both single directional and bi-directional water flow circumstances.

The means of line stopping involve inserting a mechanical or pneumatic plug (sometimes called a bladder) into the pipe. This is done by fastening a sleeve to the existing pipe and mounting a cutting machine on the sleeve with a sluice valve. The sluice valve is opened, exposing the cutting machine to the host pipe, and the cut is made under pressure, and the coupon is extracted. Once the coupon is pulled out, the sluice valve is closed the cutting machine is taken off, and a plugging machine is mounted. Once the plugging machine is mounted, the sluice valve is opened again, and the plug is inserted into the main and opened, thereby blocking the active flow in the pipe. This process can be held for hours or days depending on the application.
Holliday Utility Services provides line stopping services for temporarily isolating existing distribution and transmission mains. We can provide all the necessary materials for the job, including AIS sleeves, and arrive at the job site with all the necessary tools, equipment, and personnel to safely complete the job. We have successfully performed tapping for a variety of different pipe types including PVC, DIP, AC/Transite, C900/C909, and Steel. We have the ability to provide small diameter taps as well as large diameters up to 24".

Valve Insertions
Valve insertions gained in popularity over the last two decades with numerous types emerging in the marketplace. The goal of a valve insertion is to offer permanent and recurring control or isolation of a pipeline.

The process for a valve insertion varies by manufacturer but Holliday Utility Services offers valve insertion from Mueller (The PermaSealTM Valve) and AVT (EZ Valve(r)Valve).
For Valve Insertions, Sized 4" - 24," we offer EZ Valve
For Valve Insertions, Sized 4" - 12," we offer PermaSeal Valve
